THE CHALLENGE
Foster care and group homes can be a scary and disorienting experience.
Over 500,000 kids are in the American foster care system. Most of them will
move from foster and group homes an average of six times each or even more.
Many foster care kids have hard times establishing their identity.
The history lesson behind this sense has long for respect to children.
You can help a child develop his/her identity by participating in the
creation of The Shelly Rio Foundation. Founded by model/actress,
Shelly Rio in 2008. After spending years in the system herself.
She's living proof the challenge of giving back to a great charity does helps.

WHAT WE DO
The Foundation is going to help and cater to children that are wards
of the state that grow up in the foster system and in group homes.
This Foundation is going to have programs to teach you how to budget your money and pay your bills, to be able to cope with not having a family to turn to and move on from that, a program to teach you how to parent when they have kids since their was no parent in their lives to help guide them to parenting, programs to build up
their self esteem, schooling programs even if they decide to go when their 30yrs old. I want the funding to still be their for them. I want to be able to provide therapy if they want it for how ever long they need it, a transitioning program to help them get their own apartment and help them pay for it until they get on their feet.

ABOUT SHELLY RIO

Shelly Rio, whom was born Michelle Corbin, is the only child on her mother's side. Her mom passed away when she was 3 and she never met her dad. Raised in various foster homes and in group homes, she knew what it was to survive. Shelly has always known since a little girl she wanted to model, but couldn't until she was out of the system. Once turned 19 and on her own she became a single mom, holding a number of jobs before pursuing her modeling career. Shelly worked as a waitress for 4 years. It was however, a customer that approached her and said you should be a model that Shelly decided it was now or never. Shelly found a great photographer, took some pictures, and got an agent. From there everything took off. Originally from NJ, Shelly decided to move to Los Angeles to explore more opportunities. Rio has worked with some of the hottest video directors like Chris Robinson, Hype Williams, and Brian Barber. Just to name a few... You've seen her in: Ludacris f Chris Brown "What Dem Girls Like" â?¢â?¢ Colby O'Donis "What You Got" â?¢â?¢ Lil Wayne "Lollipop" â?¢â?¢ Lupe Fiasco "Superstar" â?¢â?¢ 50 Cent "Amusement Park" â?¢â?¢ Jay Z "Excuse Me Again" (La La La) Ms. Rio has graced the pages of the hottest urban magazines XXL, BlackMen, King, LowRider Girls and also graced the covers of King and BlackMen Magazine. Rio is most recognized from Nick Cannon's #1 hit show, MTV's Wild n' Out as one of the most featured Wild n Out Girls'. She also filmed 2 independent movies that went straight to dvd, "Decisions" & "Vegas Vampires." Ms. Rio was also voted #5 on the countdown by E! entertainments, Hollywood's 12 Sexiest Jobs for being a video vixen and a Wild n' Out girl! Whatâ??s next for Rio? She is in the 09â?² campaign as the face for Atomic Dogg energy drink and for Bacardi Gold which is out now, she is the newest edition to The Foxxhole Radio Station as a co-host on The Claudia Jordan & Friends Show, and she is currently writing a book about her life growing up in the foster care system.. Currently, Shelly Rio is starting her own non-profit organization for foster kids & group home kids to help them with funding when they turn 18. These programs will include helping the young adults transition living out in the real world when they move on their own. Chris Brown kicking it at Skateland...

Just wanted to set some rumors straight.. I forgot I had my own blogsite for a second, lol.. First off, Chris Brown had a skate party this past Thursday night at Skateland.. Many guests were in the building including Omarion, Nelly, Melanie Thornton, Brandy, Suelyn Medeiros, Chanta Patton, Brittany Dailey, myself (Shelly Rio) and many more..

Mediatakeout.com decided to post up a picture that we took on twitter and said that video girls were on a date with Chris Brown and that we're groupies and so forth.. And then said that half of us were on a date with Chris and the other half came to the party with Omarion.. I had to laugh when I read this because for a gossip site to feel the need to find a twitpic and make up a story about it is pretty desperate.. The funny thing is all the girls came together on a party bus and Chris & Omarion were already there, lol.

The fact of the matter is, we're all friends as was everyone else at the party.. Everyone took pictures and none of us are dating Chris.. I'm happily married, and the girls have no interest in Chris or Omarion.. We all went out to have fun and skate and hang with our friends.. So always remember, Believe none of what you hear and half of what you see..
