Deadline nears for council seats..

One of our fellow bloggers Charod Wilson has a very exciting few months ahead of him. His mom is running for for Terrell City Council out in Texas.. Good Luck to their family and keep us posted..

From the Terrell Tribune:
Less than a month before the deadline expires to file bids for one of two seats on the Terrell City Council only three applicants have thrown their hats into the ring.

Two are incumbents Tommy Spencer, Dist. 2, who so far looks to face one opponent, Sandra Kay Wilson, and Jack Jones, Dist. 4, who could remain the lone man on the ballot , if no one else files to run against him by March 13.

Wilson, a native of Terrell, says the decision to run is fueled by a desire to see progress in her district, while Jones and Spencer cite unfinished business as one of the reasons they would like to return to the council.

“There are a lot of things we’ve got on the drawing board that I’d like to see completed,” said Jones, who is eligible for one more term.

“I basically want to be part of completing some of the things that we started and continue to support my constituency,” Spencer said.

Wilson said she has been polling the neighborhood to find out what’s most important to residents and that will determine what she can do for them.

To run for office, prospective candidates must have lived within their district for at least six months prior to election day, May 9. They must also be a U.S. Citizen and registered Texas voter. Council members serve three-year terms.

According to the city’s Web site, anyone previously convicted of a felony is ineligible for a council seat.

Citizens who wish to run for office may file a sworn application for a place on the ballot with the City Secretary by 5 p.m., March 13.
